As the newest member of the GCCF pastoral team, Matt’s still got a long way to go to find his feet around the place (he’s only just found out that he has an in tray!). Keys, codes, hundreds of names and faces to remember and of course knowing the “way things are done around here” will take a while to get used to, so don’t be too put off if you have to introduce yourself to him more than once.
Matt’s married to his beautiful wife Kirsten and they’ve just had their first child, Micaela, who is keeping them busy when their not doing church stuff. If they seem to be getting around like zombies, it’s either a big night out with the youth group, or a long night at home with little Micaela. Both Matt and Kirsten have been involved in church youth groups for the last ten years and share a real passion for young people and encouraging them to grow in their relationship with Christ. And just secretly, Matt wants to stay working with youth for as long as possible so he doesn’t have to grow up!
Matt and Kirsten both grew up in Brisbane and (with a lot of encouragement from Matt) share a healthy passion for rugby league - especially the Broncos and the mighty Maroons. In the past they’ve both enjoyed throwing a ball around on the touch footie field and will always be up for the challenge of any sporting adventure. Kirst is a keen swimmer and has recently suffered her first defeat in the pool against Matt… more due to pregnancy than anything else! She’s vowed to return to the pool to regain her dominance when Micaela gets a bit older.
Matt was actually born in England and so still holds firm to supporting his homeland whenever the Poms play against the Aussies. They have just returned from a three year stint over in England, working, travelling and enjoying church life over there while living close to Matt’s English family. So if you need any travel advice about anywhere in Europe, give them a yell. Be warned though, they always holidayed on the cheap! |
